Requests from non-uWaterloo people to connect a laptop to the university network.
Access to the University of Waterloo network is controlled by IST. As of June 2010 there are two methods of guest access to uWaterloo networks.
- The UW-GUEST network. Click on the network connection status icon in the bottom right of your screen, then the View Wireless Networks icon, then select uw-guest. This is not available in all locations on campus.
- eduroam
is a collaborative network that enables students, staff and faculty of a member institution to connect to the
wireless network at any partner institution using the same credentials (for example: username and password) as they do at their home institution. There are instructions from IST for the first steps in setting up your computer at uWaterloo.
For more information consult the IST wireless pages or visit the CHIP office.
Visitors wanting something very quick and simple:
- Anyone desiring simple access to the web may do so from public workstations in the library.
- Anyone wanting to print something from a laptop could transfer the document to one of the library's public workstations using a memory device such as a diskette, CD-ROM, or USB key and print from there. The person will still need to purchase a guest copy card (available from Graphics Copy Centres on Campus and from dispensers in the Davis and Dana Porter Libraries)
to print.
Longer-lasting accounts for visiting scholars, post doctoral fellows, new faculty and staff, and people in joint programmes are created manually. IST needs enough information to establish a unique individual, birth date, office location, department, etc. Requests should go to:
