- After a long and distinguished career as University Librarian, Murray
Shepherd became University Librarian Emeritus on May 1. Murray retires on
July 31st.
- All the UW libraries are now “wired for wireless”.
- Richard Pinnell (Manager, University Map and Design Library and Branch
Library Services) received the Canadian Map Libraries and Archives (ACMLA/ACACC)
Honours Award/Prix d'Excellence for 2002
- The Library continues to work in partnership with the National Library
on a variety of electronic theses developments
- The UW Electronic Thesis (ETD) database has now been enabled for Open
Archives (OAI) harvesting http://etheses.uwaterloo.ca/OAI/TestPage.cfm
- In collaboration with the UW Faculty of Environmental Studies work is
proceeding on a TUG Geospatial Metadata Project
- A successful pilot of a copyright requesting service for electronic resources
was completed and extended as a one year pilot campus-wide as of Spring
2003
- Significant work on information access integration continues on a variety

University
- Significant construction work continues in a variety of areas on campus,
including the completion and official opening of the new building for Co-operative
Education and Career Services. The building is called the William M. Tatham
Centre, recognizing the $4.1 million donation by Tatham, a 1983 systems
design engineering graduate. Other donors include UW students ($4.35 M)
and the Ontario government’s SuperBuild infrastructure program ($2.35
M).
