Michael Higgins was educated in Nova Scotia at St. Francis Xavier University and in Ontario at York University where he received his doctorate in English.

He currently is a professor of English and Religious Studies, Director of the Institute for Studies in Theological Renewal, and Associate Dean at St. Jeromes College.

He has written six books including Thomas Merton: Pilgrim in Progress co-authored with Donald Grayston and My Fathers Business: A Biography of G. Emmett Cardinal Carter co-authored with Douglas R. Letson. He is also editor of Grail: An Ecumenical Journal, and a columnist for the Toronto Star.

Dr. Higgins is a frequent writer for the CBC. He has written thirty-eight radio scripts for the CBCs intellectual affairs series Ideas, in addition to the CBCs Celebration and Testament series. He has served as a theological consultant for CBCs Man Alive, and headed the cultural and historical research team for the six-hour John McGreevy production series Sir Peter Ustinovs Inside the Vatican, recently aired on CBC television. He is presently engaged in a three-part radio series for Ideas to be aired in the Fall of 1994 entitled The Jesuit Mystique.

The CBC has nominated three of Dr. Higgins programs for the prestigious Los Angeles Gabriel Award in public broadcasting.
