This set of 198 black and white, georeferenced digital orthophoto images was acquired by the Library on five CD-ROM discs plus one "replacement" disc from Metro Toronto Land Information Services, Land Information Toronto in winter 2000. These zipped images are in GeoTIFF file format. They range in size from 2.5 MB to 22 MB when zipped, and from 23 MB to 50 MB when uncompressed. Under the terms of the Library's licensing agreement, the images are for use by students, faculty and staff at the University of Waterloo only, and for teaching and research purposes only. Please check the catalogue record on TRELLIS for a brief description of this digital product; the title on Primo is: Toronto, 1997 orthophoto Land Information Toronto and call number is G3464.T7A4 1997 .M3x.
The aerial photography was flown in spring 1997 for Land Information Toronto at a nominal scale of 1:16,000. The orthophotos were then rectified to a DTM base. Image resolution is 0.5 meters, image colour depth is 8-bit (grey scale), and image type (format) is GeoTIFF. The georeferencing that is embedded in the images is 3-degree Transverse Mercator projection, NAD 27. On disk #6 (the "replacement" CD-ROM) is a set of world georeferencing files, one for each image; these are 3-degree Modified Transverse Mercator projection, NAD 27 (same as the information embedded in each image file). Also available are 6-degree UTM NAD 27 world georeferencing files on the library's network server.
The coverage provided by these 198 images is the City of Toronto, formerly known (prior to 2000) as Metropolitan Toronto. Each zipped image has a filename such as 48M.zip or 55R.zip. The index to these obscurely named image files is accessible by clicking on the map of Toronto below. First choose one of the three coloured area and then click on it for more detail. This map and the three sectional indexes to which it is linked were created by staff at the University of Toronto Library.
