David Hill was an American artist, born Nov. 19, 1914 in New York and who died Aug. 31, 1977 in Paris, France. He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, worked and painted in New York from 1942-1947, and moved to Paris in 1947, where he spent the rest of his life. These sketchbooks were passed to Virgil Burnett by Joe Plaskett, who had retained them after David Hill's death in 1977.
