Series 1 : Incorporation
Incorporation. - 1917-1956. - 12.5 cm of textual records.
After manufacturing hornless phonographs in Berlin (now Kitchener) from 1907, Arthur B. Pollock and Alex Welker formerly incorporated the Pollock Manufacturing Company Limited in 1909. Later, a woodworking plant in Elmira was acquired for the construction of phonograph cabinets and on May 22, 1917, the Phonola Company of Canada Limited was formed to continue the phonograph assembly and record business. The Pollock Manufacturing Company continued to produce parts for the phonographs, as well as bathroom fittings and other metal products.
In 1919, Pollock and Welker sold their Kitchener manufacturing plant to the General Phonograph Corporation of New York, but they bought it back in March, 1925, and established Pollock-Welker Limited. In October of that year they also established Grimes Radio Corporation Limited to produce and sell Grimes radios in Canada.
In April, 1933, the assets of Pollock-Welker Limited and the Grimes Radio Corporation were sold to Dominion Electrohome Industries Limited upon its formation. The charter of Pollock-Welker Limited was surrendered in September, 1936, and the charter of the Grimes Radio Corporation in February, 1939.
