Judy Godfrey fonds. - 1978-1982, 1987. - 12.5 cm of textual records.
Judy Godfrey (1940-) is a researcher and writer from Toronto, Ontario. In the late 1970s, Judy became actively involved in raising awareness of the issue of acid rain, particularly in the Muskoka area of Ontario, and lobbying the governments of Ontario and Canada for action on the issue of acid-rain causing emissions. As a member of the Muskoka Acid Rain Petition Committee, she played a key role in raising support for a petition for action on acid rain. Judy and her husband, lawyer Sheldon Godfrey, have been inovlved in several charitable, environmental, and civic initatives over the years, including the preservation of Ontario's architectural heritage, and have co-authored books and articles about the history of Canadian Jews. Contents: fonds consists of records collected and created by Judy Godfrey in her role as a member of the Muskoka Acid Rain Petition Committee and as a citizen concerned about the issue of acid rain. Material relates to Godfrey's efforts to learn about and raise awareness of acid rain and generate support for the petition for action on acid rain among Muskoka-area associations and individuals, as well as her communication with government representatives about the issue. Includes newspaper clippings, correspondence, ms. notes, petition forms, reports and pamphlets, etc.

Background : petition on acid rain. - 1979-1982.
Contents: file consists of material relating to the causes and effects of acid rain as well as potential action in response to the problem. Includes reports, fact sheets, and pamphlets published by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Environment Canada, the Great Lakes Science Advisory Board, and the United States-Canada Research Consultation Group on the Long-Range Transport of Air Pollutants; a children's colouring and story book; and ms. notes and handouts created and collected by Judy Godfrey at a citizen's conference on acid rain (Action Seminar on Acid Precipitation). Contains vol. 5 (1982) of the Canada-United States Law Journal, which is a special issue on acid rain.

Contents: file consists of ms. notes relating to acid rain and publicity for the Muskoka-area petition on acid rain. Letters are addressed to the committee, Ruth Miller, or Judy Godfrey. Includes letters from: Ontario Premier William Davis, Ontario Minister of Natural Resources (James A.C. Auld), Ontario Provincial Secretary for Resources Development (Rene Brunelle), Ontario Minister of Energy (Robert Welch), Ontario Minister of the Environment (Harry Parrott), Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Stan Darling, Office of the Prime Minister, Minister of Environment Canada (John Fraser), Minister of National Health and Welfare (Monique Begin) and the Office of the Leader of the NDP (Canada and Ontario). Contents: file consists of material relating to a meeting between Frank Miller, Treasurer of Ontario, and representatives of the Muskoka Acid Rain Petition Committee and of the Federation of Ontario Cottagers' Associations. Includes correspondence between Miller and Judy Godfrey (including a draft letter by Godfrey), a report on acid rain presented by Miller at the provincial legislature, a draft press release by Godfrey for Muskoka-area newspapers, and ms. notes by Godfrey concerning the meeting.
