Robert Forbes, a native of Scotland, came to Canada and by 1851 was listed as being the proprietor of a tannery, shoestore and saw-mill. All of his businesses were located in Hespeler and Puslinch Township.

The fonds consists of three daybooks or diaries of Robert Forbes covering the years 1856-1891, and three ledgers kept by Forbes and various others covering the years 1823-1873, in addition to some miscellaneous items.
