Joseph Jefferson was born in Philadelphia Feb. 20, 1829. He was educated at home, received an M.A. at Yale and at Harvard. He was an actor, was also known for his paintings and wrote his autobiography. He died in 1905.
The fonds consists of one undated typescript (transcript?) letter to J. Jefferson from a slave in Louisiana and one undated photograph of Joseph Jefferson.
Received as part of the Verbeke collection which was purchased in 1969.
