Elizabeth Long was the first woman to hold an important executive position with the C.B.C., as Supervisor of Women's Interests. She was vice-president of both the National and International Council of Women, presided over the first National Radio Conference for Women Broadcasters (1944), represented Canada at many international conferences and in 1947 was elected world convener of broadcasting for the International Council of Women. She arranged probably the most comprehensive plan of international broadcasts for women of any radio system in the world with the basic purpose of promoting peace and understanding. She was awarded a Coronation Medal. In 1954 the Council of Women began collecting books written by or about women for the Lady Aberdeen Memorial Library. Elizabeth Long was the convener of this project.

The fonds consists of correspondence, radio scripts, pamphlets, clippings relating to E. Long's work as a broadcaster, with women's organizations, and generally on women.
