In 1994, the Library received the papers and private library of the late William Dendy (1948-1993), the well-known Canadian architectural historian and author of Lost Toronto (1976) and Toronto Observed (1986).
The William Dendy Library consists of more than 3,500 books and 2,500 periodical issues. For the most part, the collection focuses on the history of architecture, but other topics, such as music and literature, are featured as well.
The William Dendy Memorial Fund was established in May 1994 to defray costs associated with processing and maintaining the William Dendy Collection. Contributions to the fund will also enable the University of Waterloo Library to purchase additional materials to complement the existing collection.
