Use of the collections is open to all students, scholars, and interested persons upon presentation of an appropriate form of personal identification, such as a valid library card, student card, or driver's licence.
Material housed in Special Collections does not circulate but must be used in the Doris Lewis Rare Book Room. Photocopying service is available in some instances. Requests for this service should be made to Special Collections staff.
Owing to the nature of the material, the use of pens, highlighters, or indelible pencils is prohibited. Pencils are provided for use in the reading room.
All material must be handled with care. The order of files in archival collections is to be maintained. Each reader is responsible for material signed out in his/her name until it is returned to a Special Collections staff member. Eating, drinking, or smoking are not permitted in the Doris Lewis Rare Book Room.
Researchers who wish to consult archival material (exclusive of the University of Waterloo Archives) are required to complete the form, "Access Policy--General Archives" which outlines responsibilities pertaining to copyright, publication, and reproduction of documents. Access to some archival material is restricted.
