Souvenir of Kitchener, Ont., 1916
This album is almost an exact duplicate of Souvenir of Berlin (F21582) and its title page reveals an interesting aspect of Kitchener’s history. In 1916, after much controversy, the city of Berlin was re-named Kitchener as a result of anti-German sentiment during the First World War. In recognition of this change, the original cover was replaced with a new one which included the new city crest. A revision was also made to the title page with the new sub-title “Breezes about Kitchener” being pasted over the former sub-title “Breezes about Berlin”.
