1. Select citations by checking boxes beside each citation
2. Choose Send > selected items to > RefWorks (either with or without abstracts)
3. You will be prompted to log into RefWorks, citations will be directly imported

2. Click on Export Selected Citations
3. Select Export type (Citation or Citation + Abstract)
4. Select File Type
5. Save to Disk and give your text file a name with extension .txt (i.e. citations.txt), save 6. file type as ALL FILES
7. Log into your RefWorks account
8. Click on References / Import
9. Choose Import Filter/Data Source: The Cochrane Library
10. Choose Database: Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews
11. Choose Import References into folder (optional)
12. Click browse to search for your text file saved earlier from Cochrane, Open file
13. RefWorks will then import your citations and place them into the Last Imported folder
1. Select the references you want to export
2. Click on Results Manager
3. Select Complete Reference in the Fields section
4. Select the Ovid format
5. Click the Save button
6. Select the Windows Style linefeeds and click Continue
7. Click Save at the File Download prompt
8. Select the location where you want to save the file and type the file name
9. Click Save
10. Log in to RefWorks
11. Select References/Import from the toolbar
12. Select Import filter OVID
13. Select Database CINAHL
14. Browse for your file and IMPORT
1. Perform a search and mark the desired citations
2. Click on Marked list
3. Click Download
4. Choose your output format (either citation
or citation + abstract)

6. Select the location where you want to save the file and
type the file name
7. Log in to RefWorks
8. Select Import from the References toolbar
9. Select ProQuest Digital Dissertations as the data source

Digital Dissertations as the database

Browse to the location you saved your .txt file and open it (under "Import Data from the following Text File")
11. Click the Import button at the bottom of the screen

2. Select the citations by checking each individual box (or when in a individual record) choose SEND TO: Clipboard
3. Click on Clipboard tab to view your citations
4. Use the drop down menu to change the Display option from Summary to MEDLINE
5. Use the drop down menu to change the Send to option to Text
6. Under the File menu, select Save As, give the file a name and save as type: textfiles
7. Login into RefWorks, click on References / Import
8. Choose Import Filter/Data Source labeled NLM PubMed, Choose Import References into folder (optional)

Click browse to search for your text file saved earlier from PubMed, Open file
10. RefWorks will then import your citations and place them into the Last Imported folder
1. Find the "Export to Refworks" button at the bottom of each bibliographic record
2. Log in to RefWorks
3. Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder
Downloading Multiple Items/Searches from TRELLIS
NOTE: Items in favorites will remain there until they are deleted (or emptied). Remember to empty favorites after importing them to RefWorks, or you will import duplicate records.
1. Check boxes beside citations to select each citation
2. Click on Add to List icon
3. Click on My List (on top Menu bar)
4. Click Select All (to select all citations on the page)
5. Click on Output icon
6. Select the desired output type for the selected document: Export
7. Choose export format: RefWorks direct export
8. Choose desired output
9. Click EXPORT
While in ISI Web of Science...
1. Mark records, add to marked list, view marked list, select
fields to include
2. Select Field Tagged and click on Save to File. This will save your citations as a .txt file
3 . Log in to RefWorks
4 . Select Import from the References toolbar
5. Use Import Filter/Data Source labeled ISI (Institute
for Scientific Information) and Web of Science as
the database
6. Browse to the location you saved your .txt file and open it (under "Import Data from the following Text File"

You can import webpage data into RefWorks. A bookmark called Ref Grab-It needs to be bookmarked to your browser. Please refer to the following site for instructions on how to bookmark Ref Grab-It
Using RefGrab-It
Note: You may need to temporarily disable any pop-up blockers while accessing the RefGrab-It results.
When you are on a web page you want to import information from, just click on the RefGrab-It button in your toolbar or bookmark list (or IE users can select Favorites, Links, RefGrab-It if you do not have the RefGrab-It button in your toolbar).
You will be brought to the RefWorks temporary results page where the data will be displayed.
This page shows you:
A link back to the web page where the information came from
basic information gathered from that web page
If you want to add the web page information RefGrab-It has found to your RefWorks account, click on the import button.
1. When logged into RefWorks, click on Bibliography
2. From the Output Style drop down menu select Access Output Style Manager
3. From Output Styles, select: JAMA- Journal of the American Medical Association
4. Click Add to Favorites (JAMA is added to your favourites and removed from the Output Style list)
5. Click on Back to Previous page, (JAMA should now appear in the Output Style drop down menu), click on Back to Reference List to view your reference.
The easiest way to cite while you write your paper is to use the One Line – Cite View method. This DOES NOT require downloading the Write-N-Cite program.
1. Login to RefWorks AND open a Word document
2. In RefWorks, change the Standard view to One line/Cite View
3. In Word, begin your paper, continue until you need to enter your first citation
5. Save your paper!
6. In RefWorks, click on the Cite link beside the reference you want to enter
7. The Citation Viewer box will pop up
7. Click on Select Citation
8. Right click on the selected citation to Copy the citation
9. Go back to your Word document
10. Paste the citation in the desired location
PLEASE NOTE: Refworks recognizes the double brackets when creating a bibliography so SAVE an extra copy of your paper with the double-bracket citations in case you have to add/change any references after you have created a bibliography. If you loose your original draft, please see the Refworks Help menu or contact the WLRC for assistance.
11. Go back to RefWorks, Click on Bibliography
12. Choose the Output Style (JAMA – see Choose JAMA as your output style above)
13. Click the button beside Format Paper and Bibliography
14. Browse for your document
15. Click on Create Bibliography
16. The new document with the bibliography will be named “final-xxx” where xxx is the name of your original document (Remember to keep original as is for changes!)
All citation changes to your document should be made to your original document and then the bibliography creation process should be repeated.
1. From EndNote, select the correct Output Style for the export. Under the File menu select Output Styles.
2. From the list of output styles select RefMan (RIS) Export select it.
Note: If you do not see this format, open the Style Manager and check the RefMan format. Close the Style Manager and repeat steps 1 and 2.
3. Select the desired citations
4. Under the Reference menu select Show Selected (or Show All if you wish to export the entire database)
5. Under the File menu select Export. A dialog box appears for you to select the location where you want to save the file. Type a file name and select a location for importing into RefWorks. Select Text as your Save As type and click Save
6. Go into RefWorks and from the References menu select Import
7. Select Desktop Biblio. Mgt. Software as your Import Filter and EndNote (Ref Man RIS Format) as your Database. Make sure you select the appropriate Mac or Windows version. Browse for and select the file you just created from EndNote
8. Click Import
9. Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder
1. From Reference Manager, mark the desired citations
2. Under the References menu select Export
3. Either use the default file name or create a new file for exporting references
4. Select the RIS format and the appropriate References Option
5. Click Export
6. Go into RefWorks and from the References menu select Import
7. Select Desktop Biblio. Mgt. Software as your Import Filter and Reference Manager (RIS Format) as your Database
8. Browse for and select the file you just created from Reference Manager
9.Click Import
10. Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder
