The pursuit of knowledge in academia relies upon an atmosphere of trust and the free exchange of ideas. Academic misconduct in the form of fabricating data, altering research results and tampering with images poisons this atmosphere and can lead to serious consequences for the student, fellow researchers and academia as a whole.

Examples of fabrication and falsification misconduct

 

 

Falsification

Misrepresentation or falsification of university documents is a serious form of academic misconduct and can lead to suspension or expulsion.  Examples of falsification include:

  • Presenting false transcripts or references in application for a program
  • Submitting work which is not your own or was written by someone else
  • Lying about a personal issue or illness in order to extend a deadline
