Annual Report 1993/94
PRE-IMPLEMENTATION SYSTEMS REVIEW
In conjunction with the UW/ISM Shared Systems Project, we undertook a systems
review to:
- Analyze and review workflows, in concert with representative staff in all
functional areas, to provide a benchmark against which to measure the impact
of change that might result from the introduction of new systems and functional
relationships
- Provide staff with the opportunity to critically examine existing policies
and procedures, and to suggest better ways of accomplishing their objectives
- Stimulate and further develop the ideas generated by the Organizational
Structure Committee

FUNCTIONAL ANALYSIS
A task group was established to develop further the underlying recommendation
of the Organizational Structure Task Group that the Library's structure should
be based on the integration of functions or processes, and to pursue suggestions
and ideas put forward by staff in the course of the Pre-Implementation Systems
Review. The report of this committee:
- Explored the implications of the development and application of mission
statements at the functional level
- Proposed several alternative organizational structures that would help the
performance of key functions and support organizational goals
- Emphasised the need for evolutionary, rather than revolutionary change and
the fundamental importance of staff training
