"In addition to cross-disciplinary coursework, I used the resources at the Library to establish a stronger knowledge base. I attended a number of library workshops to learn how to effectively use the resources available to me."
- Vic Beaumont, Chemical Engineering graduate student
Protecting the environment is a predominant global concern, and it’s one that Chemical Engineering graduate student, Vic Beaumont, is taking to the lab. His research is twofold: He’s looking to develop an alternative energy source using microbial fuel cell technology while simultaneously removing contaminants from wastewater.
To get started Vic needed to develop a broader understanding of Civil Engineering concepts and issues, and this is where the Library came in. As Vic explains, “In addition to cross-disciplinary coursework, I used the resources at the Library to establish a stronger knowledge base. I attended a number of library workshops to learn how to effectively use the resources available to me.”
Now that Vic’s research is well underway, he relies on the Library to stay on top of developments in his field. “New research trends involving fuel cells and water treatment are constantly published. Consulting the research database, Compendex, and a number of the Library’s journal subscriptions helps me keep current.”
