Generous support from our partner IBM Canada is making a tremendous impact in the Library. The equipment received through the UW Alumni@IBM campaign and a most recent gift to support the Kresge Challenge have provided the UW community with new computers and systems in all UW library locations.
Working with IBM, the Library is now leveraging its new computer resources by acting as a test bed for a potential campus-wide partnership with the IBM-supported World Community Grid. The World Community Grid is a public computing grid that harnesses the computational power of idle computers to expedite humanitarian research projects. Grid technology draws together PCs from around the world to create a unified system whose processing power can be put to work on finding solutions to pressing worldwide concerns, such as AIDS and the environment. Involvement in the partnership resonates with our strong commitment to furthering research, both here at UW and around the globe.
