“The earlier a student
is exposed to and
interacts with library
resources, the greater
their advantage through
the years.”
– Ed Janzen, Conrad Grebel Faculty
With workshops on everything from beginner research to Google Earth, students regularly
take advantage of the Library’s workshops to help them succeed in their research and studies.
Last semester, the Library saw an incredible 60% jump in workshop enrolment from previous
years, an increase achieved in part from the continued support of faculty members like Ed
Janzen, instructor in Sociology at Conrad Grebel University College.
Janzen is a key supporter of the Library’s workshops, regularly recommending them to his
students. “It’s one thing to read about library services on an orientation pamphlet and quite
another to see the very real potentials and benefits of accessing the resources. The Library’s
workshops help establish fundamental research skills for students. I use them to establish
a kind of base line of skill and knowledge.”
For Janzen, the key is encouraging students to interact with the Library and librarians early in
their academic careers. “The earlier a student is exposed to and interacts with library resources,
the greater their advantage through the years.”
