Indexes will help you find maps and reports covering a specific geographic area or topic. This publication lists indexes to the reports and maps published by the Geological Survey of Canada, the Ontario Geological Survey, and other Canadian provincial geological surveys or their equivalents. Many of the reports and maps referred to in these indexes can be found in the Davis Centre Library or the University Map and Design Library (UMD). To locate a specific report or map in the Library, do a title or author search in TRELLIS, the online catalogue. If you have any difficulty, please ask for assistance at the Information Desk.
Geological Survey of Canada
In this section, indexes that cover all areas of Canada, all topics, and all types of publications are listed first. Among these all-inclusive indexes, those providing coverage of the most recent publications are listed before those providing historical coverage.

Index sheet numbers correspond to NTS (National Topographic System) primary quadrangle numbers. To find the appropriate index sheet, consult the NTS index maps kept on top of the map cabinet in Davis and near the index sheets in UMD (Maps of the National Topographic System of Canada: Index 1-3).

Title varies. These indexes list reports and maps, including open file reports and preliminary maps, by series. The latest cumulation (1891-1992) includes an author index. Earlier volumes also provide district, NTS, and township indexes, as well as several index maps.

Library has: 1891-1980.

These index maps show the areas for which published and unpublished Geological Data Inventory Folios (GDIF) have been prepared. GDIFs are concise and comprehensive summaries of all exploration data for specific areas. They provide references to published reports and maps that cover the area and to data on file in Resident Geologist's offices.

Indexes to reports and maps published by other Canadian provincial geological surveys, or their equivalents, can be found in the Reference collection. In addition, the Earth Sciences Librarian maintains a collection of catalogues of publications of the provincial geological surveys.
