Mental Measurements Yearbook (Ref BF431.M549 Porter) is an on-going series of indexes to standardized psychological tests, e.g., educational tests, personality tests, etc. It includes brief summaries of tests and their reviews.
Each Mental Measurements Yearbook stands by itself. It contains information on new tests that are published and tests that have been revised since the publication of the previous volume. For complete coverage, all relevant yearbooks should be consulted.
Uses:
- To determine if a particular test exists.
- To determine the structure of a test, i.e., brief factual information.
- To determine if a particular test has been published and is available.
- To find summaries/excerpts of reviews of a particular test.
Six separate indexes provide access to information in the
Yearbook.
- Index of Titles of tests.
- Index of Acronyms of names of tests. This index is useful when the test is known by the acronym.
- Classified Subject Index. The Tenth Mental Measurements Yearbook has nine subject divisions.
- Publisher's Directory and Index. This index is useful for locating addresses of publishers for ordering tests and for determining the exact name of a test when only the publisher's name is available.
- Index of Names. This index is comparable to an author index. It indicates whether a person is the author of a test or has reviewed it. "Test, 46" after the author's name, for example, indicates the authorship of Test 46. "Rev, 61" indicates that that person has reviewed Test 61. Names of persons mentioned in the cross references are also indexed here.
- Score Index. This index was first published in the Ninth Mental Measurements Yearbook. It is valuable in determining how a particular concept or variable was scored. Because test scores can be regarded as operational definitions of the concepts, this index is more useful than the Title Index. Beware that the same concept may have been scored differently in different tests. To obtain an overview, the reader should look up alternative tests.
Note: The reference number obtained from these indexes refers to the entry number of the test, not to the page number.
e.g., 7:152 means information about the test is included in the Seventh Mental Measurements Yearbook under entry number 152.
