Your Patronage

The UW community spends a lot of time visiting the Library — both in our physical locations and virtual web presence. We are one of the very busiest services on campus, with close to 14,000 visitors to our locations every day and over 16.5 million hits to our website every year.

Students recognize the importance of the Library to their academic success and student experience. Every year students provide significant financial support in the form of endowments. Key endowments in recent years have included:

Arts Endowment Fund — equipped the Dana Porter Library with 10 new study carrels and chairs, a donation totaling $13,099.97
Engineering Endowment Fund — provided $5,000 to help the Library purchase first-year engineering textbooks to be held on reserve at the Davis Centre Library
Math Endowment Fund — donated $24,990 to enable the purchase of study carrels and chairs for the Davis Centre Library
The Faculty of Science Foundation (FSF) — awarded $5,000 to purchase new chairs for student use in the Davis Centre Library
The Student Life Endowment Fund — provided $11,249.93 to support projects promoting accessibility for students and to equip both the Davis and Porter libraries with new chairs for student use

Before and during the Dana Porter's Main Floor Renovation, students provided feedback that helped shape the new main floor
At the Davis Centre Library, students continually engage with staff to inform the many current and upcoming changes in the Davis Centre Library environment

Your talent is reflected in the Library's physical and virtual spaces.

Students are continually contributing their unique vision to the Library. A few recent examples include student art, class contributions, and participation in creative library contests:

Student artists have chosen the Library as the site (and sometimes muse) for an installation project, a final term project in drawing, a photographic artwork, and lego project
Computer science students chose the Library as the site for a project in an upper-year Human-Computer Interaction course
Students created a wide range of videos describing why they love the Library in the Library's "Why do you love the Library?" contest. They also provided photos of their favourite spots in the Library for a recent photo contest
