The Basics of Map-making in Google Earth

Wanting to play with Google Earth for fun? Never use Google Earth to create a map?  This workshop will teach you the basics of the popular Google Earth. You will learn how to create placemarks, how to create a walking tour, how to record a Google Street View tour and how to create and share a map.

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

• Create placemarks by searching, entering address or using Latitude and Longitude co-ordinates
• Get walking directions and create walking paths
• Switch to Google Street View and record a street view tour
• Add a picture into Google Earth and create a map
• Finish, print and share your map

Mapping with ArcGIS Desktop 10

Wanting to create a map for your course assignment or research project or but don’t know how to start?  This workshop will teach you the basics with the popular ArcGIS Desktop 10 program. You will learn how to add GIS data, how to create simple maps, and where to find GIS data and resources. 

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

• Work with Shapefiles and basemaps from ArcGIS online
• Create a map with proper symbols and text
• Insert Map Elements
• Save and Print your Map
• Strategies for finding for GIS data, resources and helps.
