Climate Dataset (Daily 10km Grids)

Description:

This dataset was received in January 2009 from the National Land and Water Information Service, Agriculture and Agri-Food, Canada.

The Daily 10km Gridded Climate Dataset for Canada 1961-2003 (ANUSPLIN Point Grid) contains gridded point locations of daily maximum temperature (°C), minimum temperature (°C), and precipitation (mm) for the Canadian landmass south of 60°N . Each daily grid contains interpolated point estimates arranged in a regular grid with a spacing of 10 km. Grids were interpolated from daily Environment Canada climate station observations using a thin plate smoothing spline surface fitting method implemented by ANUSPLIN V4.3.

The data are georeferenced TIF images, one image for each day of the year.

Spatial Reference and Data Type:

These data sets are available in Geographic Coordinate System, Horizontal Datum: NAD 83. Map Projection Name: Albers Conical Equal Area. Other data formats can be accommodated, as the Map Library has access to a number of conversion utilities.

Data Access:

In order to access these data sets, please visit the Map Library Reference Desk during reference hours.   Library reference staff are available to provide further information about these data sets.  Under the terms of the Library's license agreement, these data sets are for use by students, faculty, and staff at the University of Waterloo only.

Data Manipulation:

There are public workstations in the UML Library that provide access to GIS software, program extensions and data manipulation utilities. Patrons may use the GIS software in the library to view and manipulate the data. UW faculty, students and staff may copy these data to other media (Zip disk or CD-R) for use elsewhere.

Data Output:

These data may be exported from the GIS software as a bitmapped image (e.g., jpg) or may be printed as a map view using one of the library's colour printers.
