Grand River Watershed Vector
and Raster Grid Data

Description:

This data resource provides hydrologic and water management information for the Grand River watershed. The watershed extends from the headwaters of the Grand River near Luther Marsh Reservoir to the mouth of the Grand River at Port Maitland on Lake Erie. This information is provided to the Library by the Grand River Conservation Authority on an annual or more frequent basis. The resource includes the following vector and raster grid data sets.

Some of these features are also available for download from the Grand River Information Network.

GRCA Vector Data
Cross Sections Conservation Lands Slope Erosion Hazard
Dams 2 m Contours Snow Course Sample Sites
Ecoregions Poorly Drained Soils Subcatchments
Floodplains (2007) Properties Virtual Drainage
Hydrologic Response Unit Rain Gauges Water Flow Gauges
Forest Management Compartments Registered Schedule Areas Water Quality Gauges
Municipal Boundaries River Watch Sites Wetlands (2004)

The title of this resource in TRELLIS is GRCA G.I.S data [electronic resource] /. The call number of the backup CD-ROM disc(s) is G3462.G724 s10.G7x.

Also of potential interest is a related resource, the GRCA's real-time water flow and quality data.

Spatial Reference and Data Type:

These data sets are available in UTM co-ordinates; horizontal datum is NAD 83. These data are stored as Esri shapefiles. Other data formats can be accommodated, as the Geospatial Centre has access to a number of conversion utilities.

Data Access:

In order to access these data sets, please visit the Geospatial Centre Reference Desk during reference hours.  Library reference staff are available to provide further information about these data sets and to deliver data upon request.

Data Manipulation:

There are public workstations in the Geospatial Centre that provide access to both ArcGIS and ArcView software programs, program extensions and data manipulation utilities. Patrons may use the GIS and image processing software in the library to view and manipulate the data. UW faculty, students and staff may copy these data to other media (for example: CD, DVD or Zip disc) for use elsewhere.

Data Output:

This image may be exported from ArcGIS in a choice of bitmapped formats (also known as raster graphics) including JPG, TIFF, GIF, and BMP or in a choice of vector graphics formats including AI, EPS, and SVG. Yet another option is PDF.

Use Restrictions/Licensing/Copyright:

These data are provided for personal use for academic, research, and/or teaching purposes. Library staff will ask patrons to read and sign a data release agreement before these licensed data can be released. The Grand River Conservation Authority must be acknowledged on any derivative product, whether printed or electronic, including for example, a printed map, a raster or vector graphic, a web-based application, etc. Patrons are advised to fully respect the provisions of Canada's Copyright Act as well as terms and conditions imposed by the data provider.
