
Plans are currently underway for the renovation of the Dana Porter Library's third floor containing our collection of print periodicals. These renovations, scheduled to take place over the 2005 spring term, are funded by the recent $500,000 Campaign Waterloo leadership gift from local community members, Peter and Betty Sims. Implemented by TriUniversity Data Resources (TDR) , the Nesstar web retrieval system will soon be unveiled as the new web interface and retrieval system for accessing statistical and numeric data for academic use. The enhanced options provided by Nesstar include advanced search capabilities, a user-friendly interface, plus the ability to retrieve data in a variety of formats, including SAS (Statistical Analysis System) and SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). ProQuest Dissertations and Theses (PQDT) (formerly Digital Dissertations) provides users with a web database for accessing citations, abstracts, and full text for doctoral dissertations and master's theses from over 1,000 North American and international graduate schools. Overall, there are approximately 2 million dissertations and theses indexed in ProQuest Dissertations and Theses. Citations are provided to dissertations and theses dated as early as 1861 and as recent as the previous fiscal academic semester. The full text is provided for dissertations and theses from 1997 to the present for all submitting schools, and in the case of some schools, all years are available. [full article - PQDT]
