GIS
Day is an annual, grassroots event that formalizes the practice of Geographic
Information Systems (GIS) users and vendors opening their doors to schools,
businesses, and the general public to showcase real-world applications
of this important technology. Coordinated and hosted by the University
Map Library, the Faculty of Environmental Studies, and the Waterloo-Laurier
Graduate Program in Geography, GIS Day @ UW was celebrated
November 16th in the Environmental Studies 1 Courtyard and adjacent seminar

Book Review Digest (BRD) is an online, searchable index that directs users to the reviews of more than 300,000 books that appeared in over 500 publications ranging from academic journals to newspapers from 1905 to the present. A combination of Book Review Digest Plus and Book Review Digest Retrospective, BRD provides excerpts from, and citations to, reviews of adult and juvenile fiction and non-fiction. Scholars from all disciplines can now easily trace the works of authors and determine how each work was received at the time it was published. [full article - Book Review]
The Library now subscribes to online access of the entire collection for the SPIE International Society for Optical Engineering. The SPIE Digital Library is the most extensive resource available on optics and photonics. Researchers have unprecedented access to nearly 200,000 technical papers from SPIE Journals and Conference Proceedings, including full coverage from 1998 to the present. Extension of the archive back to 1990 is 95% complete. Special features of the SPIE Digital Library include a comprehensive search engine, email alerts, and citation linking. [full article - SPIE]
