Book Review Digest (BRD)

Book Review Digest (BRD) is an online, searchable index that directs users to the reviews of more than 300,000 books that appeared in over 500 publications ranging from academic journals to newspapers from 1905 to the present. A combination of Book Review Digest Plus and Book Review Digest Retrospective, BRD provides excerpts from, and citations to, reviews of adult and juvenile fiction and non-fiction. Scholars from all disciplines can now easily trace the works of authors and determine how each work was received at the time it was published.

With online access provided via the Wilson Web interface, Book Review Digest offers basic and advanced search options, plus a browse, search history, and thesaurus feature. The Get It! at Waterloo feature helps users locate the full-text of the reviews, while in some cases, excerpts from the reviews are linked directly from the database. Additionally, citation information can be printed, saved, emailed, and/or exported to RefWorks (or other similar citation management software).

Access to Book Review Digest is available from the Library’s Journal Articles, Etc. (Research Databases) page by clicking on the letter "B" in the Browse by Title section, then by selecting the link for "Book Review Digest."

Book Review Digest can also be accessed via the Library’s catalogue, TRELLIS.

The purchase of Book Review Digest Retrospective was made possible by the Sims Family Endowment fund.
