New York Times (Historical)

Once only available in print or microform, you can now search historical back issues of the New York Times online.

Available via ProQuest, the New York Times database offers access to digital copies of articles and images published since the newspaper’s first issue in 1851 onwards (excluding the past three years). It offers basic and advanced search options providing access to scanned text and images for:

Other features available from the New York Times historical database include the ability to mark, save, and/or email citation records. Need to create a bibliography? Marked citations can also be exported to RefWorks (or other reference management software).

Access to New York Times (Historical) is available from the Library’s Research Databases (Journal Articles) page by clicking on the letter "N" in the Browse by Title section, then by selecting the link for "New York Times."

It can also be accessed from the Library’s listing of American Newspapers on the News & Newspapers web site, or via the Library's catalogue, TRELLIS.
