Jonathan Sutherland
Davis Centre Library
Ext. 33934
The Library welcomes Jonathan Sutherland, the Davis Centre Library's newest Library Associate.
Since starting full-time in September, Jonathan has been busy assisting the Liaison Librarians with a number of initiatives, including data collection, statistics preparation, and projects relating to the print collection, to name a few. He has also become a familiar face on Davis' Information Desk where he provides research support for students.
When asked how he likes Davis so far, he has a number of positive things to say.
"I appreciate the cooperative atmosphere, as well as the determination of the librarians to anticipate the direction of information services, and to incorporate new technologies. There's always something new being worked on!"
Jonathan arrives at Davis from the UW Bookstore, where he worked for over three years. For two of these years he was the textbook buyer for the science and engineering faculties – an experience that gave him a familiarity with the disciplines he now supports.
And while Jonathan is able to approach research like a scientist or engineer when helping students at the Information Desk, this Trent English grad admits, "I live in the hope that a disorientated English student will one day wander into Davis looking for Renaissance poetry resources."
When not at work, Jonathan enjoys spending time with his wife and five-year-old daughter. He also enjoys taking courses at UW – particularly in English and Latin – and jokes that he also likes to "put poetry into Excel sheets.”
Be sure to stop by and say hello to Jonathan next time you’re in Davis!
