With anniversary celebrations abounding in and around UW during 2007, the staff in Special Collections were busier than ever, responding to countless requests for archival photos, documentation, and other memorabilia to support the celebrations.
Now after a hectic year, the Department is reflecting on the year’s achievements with its display “The Year in Review... 2007 and Special Collections.” The display highlights key publications that Special Collections participated in and provided documentation for, as well as a selection of gifts and acquisitions acquired within the year.
Worthy of special mention within the display are four anniversary books that the Department provided support for leading up to the celebration year, including:

Out of the Shadow of Orthodoxy: Waterloo @ 50, a colourful and engaging history of UW written by author and St. Jerome’s professor, Kenneth McLaughlin, in anticipation of UW’s 50th anniversary. Through extensive consultation with Special Collections documentation, McLaughlin brings to life the history of the University. |

Waterloo: An Illustrated History, also by McLaughlin and updated with Dr. Sharon Jaeger in preparation for the City of Waterloo’s 150th anniversary.The new chapter entitled “The Waterloo Way” describes the rise of the high-tech industry within Waterloo and its tremendous impact on the growth of the city. |

Profiles from the Past, Faces of the Future: Waterloo 150. Published by the Waterloo Public Library as part of Waterloo’s 150th anniversary, it provides biographical descriptions of notable Waterloo persons, with many of the profiles having a UW connection. |

Celebrating Research: Rare and Special Collections from the Membership of the Association of Research Libraries, published by the Association Research Libraries in celebration of its 75th Anniversary. It provides “a sampling of the remarkable abundance of collections available for use in the member libraries of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL)." The UW profile written by Special Collections' staff features the Library's Seagram Museum Collection, recognized as the "world's finest collection on the beverage alcohol industry." |
