From Pennsylvania to Waterloo: A Biographical History of Waterloo Township

Local historians and genealogists rejoiced when local groups interested in history and archives collaborated to make the information in Ezra Eby's long out-of-print book "A Biographical History of Waterloo Township" available in a new searchable website.

A Biographical History of Waterloo Township

Eby's original book documents the migration and settlement of six key German pioneer families (Shantz, Eby, Baumann, Clemens, Schneider, and Hallman) from Pennsylvania to Waterloo Township in the 1800s.

The newly-created site features the exact contents of Eby's book, enriched and expanded on through the inclusion of additional scanned documents and metadata. Materials are fully searchable, as well as browsable by name and material type.

Although the project was headed by the Joseph Schneider Haus National Historic Site and the Region of Waterloo Library, many archival institutions in the Region contributed archives for inclusion, including the Library's Special Collections department that contributed close to 75 documents, primarily materials relating to the Shantz and Bowman families.
