Academic Integrity Tutorial Now Ready

In time for the new academic year, the Office of Academic Integrity recently unveiled a new Academic Integrity Tutorial as part of its recent initiatives to promote academic integrity at UW.

Developed by librarians Christine Jewell and Leeanne Romane, the tutorial is designed to provide first year students with a positive orientation to academic integrity that is focused on learning and education. It examines some of the common pitfalls that students encounter in their studies, including cheating, plagiarism, and improper citation of sources.

Illustration by Sara LeBlanc, UW Graphicslllustrated in graphic novel-style by Sara LeBlanc from UW Graphics, the tutorial highlights the principles of academic integrity as they apply in different scenarios, such as when writing exams, completing assignments, and collaborating with others.

Christine Jewell explains that "the graphic novel-style aims to make academic integrity concepts more accessible and engaging for students while still getting across all the key messages."

The tutorial includes a final quiz for students to check their understanding. In the future this quiz may be linked to Quest records, meaning that students will get credit for successfully completing it.

The Office of Academic Integrity has been promoting this tutorial to incoming students through orientation sessions and a poster included in all frosh kits.
