New Smart Search Tool - Now Available
Next time you are searching the TRELLIS catalogue, you will notice a link in the header portion of the search page linking to the Library’s new smart search tool, Primo Beta.
Primo Beta is a new search tool that allows you to find and access a wide range of print and electronic resources from a single search point. It has a user-friendly interface with many design features to improve your research experience by making it more intuitive, seamless, and enjoyable.
What can you use it for?
At present, you can use Primo Beta to find the same types of materials you find in the TRELLIS catalogue, including print resources such as books, as well as electronic resources such as e-journals and e-books. In coming months, it will expand to include article searching and provide access to resources from external repositories.
How is Primo Beta different from TRELLIS?
Primo Beta provides similar functionality as TRELLIS with the following additional benefits and features:
- The ability to group like records into rich single-display records to avoid duplication in search results
- Greater interoperability with the Library's other research tools to optimize delivery across resources and platforms
- The potential to index and provide access to an endless number of external repositories
- Social software features, such as tagging and reviewing to encourage knowledge sharing and creation
- Many other search and design features, including:
- Better capabilities for refining search results
- A “did you mean?” spell checker
- Integration with Google Books search
- The ability to limit search results to “available” and “online” resources
- The option to sort search results by popularity and relevance
- Display features such as book covers and icons displaying material type
