Kristen joins Porter’s Information Services and Resources (ISR) team for an eight-month co-op work term as part of her Masters of Library and Information Science degree that she is currently completing at the University of Western Ontario.
Since starting in May, Kristen has been busy completing her departmental training, working on the Reference Desk, and getting involved in many projects as part of the Library’s instructional committee, LINC.
“I am looking forward to working on a variety of projects and have an interest in library instruction,” Kristen explains. More generally, she has future interests in academic librarianship as well as health science information services.
Prior to embarking on the library field, Kristen worked as a physical therapist in Australia for close to 6 years – a fact that has some Porter staff inquiring constantly about what life Down Under is like. When asked about her most memorable Australian experience, she describes traveling the country and visiting many exotic locations.
“I snorkelled the Great Barrier Reef, camped in the Outback and visited Uluru (Ayer’s Rock), travelled the Great Ocean Road, and visited the vineyards of both the Barossa and Hunter valleys,” she says.
While life at the Library may not be quite as adventurous, we know Kristen will drum up some excitement while she’s here. Welcome, Kristen!
