Welcome to Mark Smith, the Library’s first-ever Scopus™ Student Ambassador.

, Scopus™ Student Ambassador, Ext. 33109
In this position, supported by Elsevier Inc., Mark coordinates targeted outreach on campus. His main goals are to increase awareness and usage of the database Scopus™ and other electronic resources by the university community.
Scopus™ is a large citation and abstract database, covering all subject areas. It contains nearly 18,000 peer-reviewed journals from more than 5,000 publishers with a range of advanced research features.
"I like that I am helping others learn about something useful that they can apply to their own work," says Mark. Over the course of the term, Mark will be coordinating a range of initiatives to do just this, beginning with a Scopus™ Day scheduled for November 9.
So far, Mark is enjoying his position with Scopus™ and the Library. This is his first opportunity to see behind-the-scenes at the Library.
"Normally I just sit in a study carrel, put some head phones on and dive into the books. I have gained a completely different perspective of what happens in the Library and more respect for those who work in it," he says.
Mark is a 3rd year Arts and Business student with a background in Engineering. His previous work experience includes positions at Open Text and in various departments around the Waterloo campus.
