
Irish studies scholarship got a huge boost recently with the publication of the Dictionary of Irish Biography. The Library has subscribed to the Dictionary, now available through Primo.
Described by Seamus Heaney as “an epoch-making event in the history of Irish scholarship,” the Dictionary of Irish Biography is a collaborative project between Cambridge University Press and the Royal Irish Academy.
It includes 9,000 biographical entries by 700 contributors. Biographies cover the lives of Irish men and women who have made a significant contribution both in Ireland and internationally.

The Dictionary is full-text searchable and also includes a useful advanced search with fields for searching by place, birth/death dates, religion, occupation/field, and contributor. It also includes a “Biography of the Day” and enjoyable “Read a Random Life” tab to help you discover the range of biographies it encompasses.
