Freedom to Read at the Dana Porter Library

If banned books could talk, what would they say? Librarians at the Dana Porter Library have attempted to answer this question with an interactive display on the main floor of Porter that showcases a selection of books previously challenged in Canada.

Freedom to Read week banner

Created in celebration of Freedom to Read week running February 21-27, librarians have personalized featured titles with banners that describe, from the books' perspectives, a bit about their challenged background. Titles have been randomly placed throughout the main floor for visitors to enjoy.

Previously banned books

Complementing this interactive display, librarians have also created a small exhibit of banned books in the display cases at the Graphics location on the main floor.

Additionally, all visitors to Porter this week will have the chance to fill out a ballot to win a $25 gift card for the BookStore, courtesy of Retail Services.
