Engineering Village Newsletter Features Waterloo

Engineers take note! Engineering Village, one of the Library’s largest database platforms, recently featured the research of Waterloo Engineering faculty and students in its latest newsletter.

The newsletter includes an interview with Engineering professor Shirley Tang and four of her fourth year engineering students — Mickey Chan, Vanessa Ng, Sandy Liu, and Ernest Ho — discussing the students’ end of year project that was showcased recently at Waterloo’s symposium for seniors in the nanotechnology program.

The interview touches on Waterloo’s nanotechnology program, but primarily focuses on the students’ “night vision stealth coating” project that was undertaken to introduce “a novel coating using carbon nanotubes, that can be synthesized and applied to fabrics to enable night vision invisibility for stealth operations.”

As Professor Tang describes in the interview, the inspiration for the project came “from Harry Potter’s invisible cloak.”

Engineering Village is one of the Library’s largest subscription database platforms. Databases searchable within Engineering Village include Compendex, GEOBASE, GeoRef, Inspec, and Referex.
