Despite the name, the Doris Lewis Rare Book Room contains a lot more than rare books. One such item is the commemorative quilt created by Emily Hunsberger to honour the University of Waterloo’s 50th anniversary and acquired at that time.

Susan Mavor, Emily Hunsberger, and Lois Claxton hold up the university's 50th Anniversary Quilt
Emily met with Head of Special Collections, Susan Mavor and University Secretary, Lois Claxton, to view the quilt now being stored in Special Collections. This was the first time she had seen the quilt since completing it for the anniversary year over three years ago.

The quilt, now covered with over a thousand signatures from staff, faculty, and students, will remain in Special Collections where it will be preserved in an archival quality box to ensure its continuation for future generations. It will be periodically displayed within the Reading Room.
