Closed Doors... Opened Through Archives

Special Collections is taking part in Waterloo Region’s Doors Open this year. Following the theme of “Made in Waterloo Region,” the Department is showcasing a virtual and an on-site exhibit to highlight the history of some of the manufacturing companies in the region that have closed their doors for good.

Items showcased in exhibits are taken from the companies’ archives held in Special Collections. “Because these companies have donated their archives to the university, the Library can ensure a door remains open to their past,” explains Project Archivist Anita Streicher.

The virtual exhibit features image slideshows and background information for these local companies:

Items from the archives of these companies will be on display in the Library's Rare Book Room during the Doors Open event that happens on Saturday, September 18 from 10 am to 5 pm.

We hope to see you there!
