In this position, Sam has the overall responsibility for circulation desk services and technical support services. She is also responsible for administering circulation functions for the Library’s catalogue, liaising with unit libraries on circulation matters, and managing the casual staff budget.

Sam brings a wealth of library experience to her new position. Beginning as a casual staff member in the Library in 1995, Sam has been a permanent employee for the past 10 years, holding positions such as Weekend Supervisor, Library Assistant, Library Instruction-UML, Collections/TUGbars Supervisor. Most recently, Sam was the Supervisor for Resource Sharing, a role that she held for 8 years.

During her time at the Library, Sam has participated in a wide range of projects and committees. In particular, she played a key role on three important projects aimed at improving the Davis Centre Library environment – the Davis Centre Library renovation, the Cultural Change project, and the relatively recent DC Exam Zone.

“My hope is that we can continue to make improvements to the Davis Centre Library to make it a supportive space for all students," Sam explains.

A former Waterloo student herself, Sam completed her undergraduate degree here at Waterloo with a joint honours in Geography and Environment and Resource Studies. More recently, she also completed a Masters degree at Waterloo in Geography, successfully juggling work and part-time studies for seven years.

“Being a student while also working at the Library offered me a unique perspective” Sam says. “I learned first-hand how useful RefWorks is and I was often able to advise my classmates on how to conduct research at the Library.”

Outside of work, Sam enjoys making pottery, cooking, and music.

The Library wishes Sam well in her new position!
