The Library welcomes Ben Robinson to the Dana Porter Library’s Information Resources and Services department for an 8-month co-op work term.
Since starting in January, Ben has been busy participating in departmental training, assisting students at the Davis Centre and Dana Porter Information Desks, and providing instruction to students as part of the Library’s Instruction Committee.

“I’m enjoying everything so far,” Ben says. “The department is great, the people are great. I also really like helping students at the information desk.”
In addition to public service, Ben’s primary focus in this position will be the creation of a Collection Retention Policy toolkit to help librarians create subject-specific retention policies for their areas of collection responsibility.
“The toolkit will make it easier for librarians to make more informed decisions about whether or not to retain or remove items from the Library’s collection” he says. “It will integrate into librarians’ workflow to save them time.”
Ben is currently completing his Master of Library and Information Science degree at the University of Western Ontario. Prior to this, he earned an MA in History at the University of Guelph where he completed a thesis on baseball spectatorship in nineteenth-century New York City. He completed his BA at Brock in Communications, Media, and Culture.
Outside of work, Ben enjoys playing ultimate frisbee. His team, MuD, went to the ultimate frisbee Canadian finals last year, placing seventh overall.

He also enjoys helping out every year with the Special Olympics baseball team in Guelph alongside his fiancée, Lindsay.
A warm welcome to Ben!
