Encyclopedia of Language and Linguistics

Language and linguistics scholars can rejoice! The Library recently purchased the highly-acclaimed Encyclopedia of Language and Linguistics, second edition.

Described as unsurpassable for its “depth, currency, interdisciplinary coverage, and sheer comprehensiveness,” this electronic reference work is now available through Primo and the Library’s Online Reference Shelf.

The Encyclopedia of Language and Literature includes over 3,000 articles, 1,500 figures, and 39,000 references. It also includes a list of commonly-used abbreviations and a list of the world’s languages.

It covers topics such as second-language acquisition, language and the brain, and language education policies worldwide. Contents are divided more specifically into 38 different subject areas:


Since the Encyclopedia of Language and Linguistics is electronic, it is easy to browse by the topics above or search across the entire reference work. Articles are cross-referenced and include links to journal articles and abstracts for easy navigation.
