The Dictionary of Science

Looking for quick definitions and summaries of scientific terms and topics? Check out the Dictionary of Science, a new addition to the Library’s Knovel database.

This dictionary contains 9,200 entries organized alphabetically on topics in biology, chemistry, earth sciences, physics, and astronomy, including over 160 short biographies of leading scientists throughout history.

In addition to basic entries, the dictionary also includes a selection of chronologies and illustrated features on topics of interest to modern science, including the following:Cover for the print version of the Dictionary of Science

The dictionary also includes eight useful appendices on the topics of SI units, fundamental constants, the solar system, geological time scale, simplified classification of land plants, simplified classification of the animal kingdom, and the periodical table.
