Copyright: How the Library Can Help
Copyright is a hot topic on campus these days. When it comes to adhering to the guidelines for Waterloo’s new copyright environment, the Library wants to remind you of how we can help.
Here are the primary resources and services that the Library makes available:
- Waterloo Copyright FAQ – This FAQ was created in collaboration with campus partners and offers detailed information to answer a wide range of copyright questions. It includes a list of copyright contacts, so you will know who to contact for additional advice.
- Guide for Those Teaching Courses – This guide was prepared specifically with instructors in mind. It identifies what has changed with regards to copying in the new copyright environment and outlines options for making print and electronic copies available to students.
- eReserves – Using our eReserves service is one of the easiest and most hassle-free ways of ensuring that you follow the copyright guidelines when sharing resources with your students. eReserves staff handle obtaining permissions when required and can also make persistent (non-expiring) links to articles. For more information on getting started with eReserves, see our eReserves FAQ.
- Liaison Librarians – Although Liaison Librarians are not available to help with obtaining copyright permissions, they can assist you with adjusting to the new copyright environment in other ways. They can provide information about the Library’s resource licenses and are available for research appointments and to deliver in-class instruction to help you and your students to access and use resources in ways that respect copyright.
For more information, email or call a copyright contact.
