Doors Open 2011

Special Collections is taking part in Doors Open in Waterloo Region for a second year on Saturday, September 17. In this year’s exhibit, Special Collections celebrates the role of photographers to open doors to spaces and scenes throughout history that may otherwise remain undocumented.

The exhibit, aptly titled “Doors Open through the Photographer’s Lens,” celebrates photographs as lasting doors to the past. It showcases the archives of local photographers Robert Nicol (Personal Studio) and Charles Belair, as well as images from the Kitchener-Waterloo Record Photographic Negative Collections and other archives held by the University of Waterloo Library. Historical images of some of the buildings included in this year’s Doors Open event will also be on display.

Interested in attending? Visit the Doris Lewis Rare Book Room in the Dana Porter Library on September 17 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Free parking is available in Lot C off of Seagram Drive at University Avenue West.

If you can’t make it this year, view Special Collections’ online exhibit, which highlights a selection of the photos viewable at the onsite exhibit.
