Major Donations Will Transform Student Spaces in the Dana Porter Library
The Library has received two major donations that will be used to make tremendous improvements to student study spaces on the sixth and tenth floors in the Dana Porter Library.
These gifts include:
- $25,000 from the Mary and Warren Ober Foundation to create the Warren and Mary Ober Group Study Rooms on the tenth floor of the Dana Porter Library. Warren Ober is a retired faculty member from the English Department. The renovation will incorporate accessibility and universal design principles to create a welcoming and efficient study space for students.
- $100,000 from Elise Devitt to contribute to a complete renovation of the Dana Porter Library’s sixth floor. The renovation will include the creation of the James and Elise Devitt Group Study Room and will reflect recommendations from a recent assessment of the Library that will set the standard for changes to additional floors in the future. Elise Devitt, now retired, was a long-time staff member here at Waterloo.
"These gifts from retired faculty and staff members speak to the vital support that we receive from our community," says University Librarian Mark Haslett. "They strengthen the Library's ongoing efforts to enable student success."
Construction started last week on the tenth-floor group study rooms. The renderings and floor plans for the renovation look amazing and give an idea of what to expect for the new group study rooms.
