Special Collections has opened a handful of new archival collections for research.
Archives arranged and described in 2011 that are now open for research include:
Ivan W. Keffer (1890-1965) was an executive of the F. W. Woolworth Co. from Berlin (now Kitchener). Keffer and his family lived in Berlin, Germany, from 1927 to 1939 while Keffer managed Woolworth's German operations. This unique and interesting collection includes diaries, souvenir postcards, and other material.
Ross Dixon (1914-2009) was an entrepreneur and philanthropist in Kitchener. Outside of his career in industrial relations at Uniroyal Canada, he built around 150 houses in Kitchener-Waterloo through his Westmount Construction Company and later formed a financial services company. The collection includes over 1,300 architectural drawings as well as material documenting trends in suburban home-building and design during the 1950s and 1960s.
The Central Ontario Art Association is a non-profit organization, formed in 1954 to provide opportunities for area artists in art instruction, to encourage the pooling of resources and efforts, and to develop leadership in visual art. Material in the collection documents the association's history and development, administration and membership, and the events and activities it has organized, from 1954 until about 2000.
