ARTstor contains over a million images in the arts, architecture, humanities, and social sciences. Its collections include contributions from museums, photographers, libraries, scholars, artists, and photo archives from around the world. Although ARTstor isn’t a new resource, it’s one worth remembering – especially if you’re looking for images to use in your academic publications.

All images in ARTstor are available to use for select academic and non-commericial purposes (including conference presentations or within your lecture slides), but ARTstor also makes thousands of images available through its Images for Academic Publishing (IAP) program which gives scholars the opportunity to use ARTstor’s production-quality images free of charge within their scholarly publications when they agree to ARTstor’s terms & conditions of use (pdf).
IAP currently offers 6,400 images from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and 3,900 images from the Mellink Archive (Bryn Mawr College).
When looking for IAP images in ARTstor just include the term “IAP” in your search.
